Paperback, sewn, in grey cover. On the front cover is printed a list of Gade’s "Grössere Gesangwerke mit Orchesterbegleitung" published by Breitkopf & Härtel. The leaf following the title page contains the argument and the text (in German) with reference to page numbers. An unchanged lithographic reproduction of this first edition was published around 1893 with the plate number Part. B. 706.

  The dating 1887 is added in blue crayon on front cover, in Gade’s hand. The copy does not contain any annotations or additions except for a correction in pencil to the tenor parts in No.1, bar 87. Otherwise as A.

In full cloth binding stamped COMALA. in gold on front cover. Hand-written label pasted on front cover inscribed Op. 12. / Comala / Partitur. Pagination is sporadic, pages 107-162 incorrectly paginated 106-161. At the end of the music on p. 161 [recte 162] is the dating Leipzig den 11 Märtz 1846 / Königstr: N ^o 16. At top of page 3 inscribed in runes ᚵᚢᚦ: ᚵᛁᚢᛅ: ᛚᚤᚴᚴᛅ: (GUD GIVE LYKKE).

Written in ink (Gade). Additions pencil, blue crayon and red pen.

In half binding; brown cardboard cover with green cloth on spine and corners. Label pasted on front cover stamped Mus-n / 1493. Stamped below the label: Fürstl. Bestand. Pp. 2-228 paginated in pencil. Both layers of additions are in the same hand, the ones in pencil apparently added first. Additions are mainly completions of dynamic indications, but also some exclusively performance-related. The first cut in No. 9 found in A and B was also applied in C as is apparent from pencil crosses on pp. 162 and 171 and from the bended corners of the pages in between. Condition: very good, few traces of use.Manuscript copy as sold by Breitkopf & Härtel between 1846 and 1889. Several other such publisher-made copies are known, though copied by different hands (D-Sl HB XVII 177; D-LEm PM 5044; I-OS Mss.Mus.A 8). Together with the score is an incomplete set of parts (14 manuscript parts: S.1 (2), S.2 (3), A.1 (2), A.2, T.1, B.1 (3), B.2 and cb., probably written by a local scribe, and 1 printed part: Dersagrena).

Written in brown ink (copyist). Additions pencil and blue crayon.

5 parts: Comala, Dersagrena (2), Melicoma (2). Incomplete; Fingal missing. Dersagrena [1] and Melicoma [1] copied by the same scribe, presumably for the 1856 performance in Copenhagen. Dersagrena [2] apparently copied by the same scribe as Dersagrena [1] and Melicoma [1] for the first performance in Danish in 1871. Comala and Melicoma [2] are later copies (probably late 19^th or early 20^th century).

J: Printed choral parts with Danish text

4 parts: Soprani, Alti, Tenori, Bassi. First edition with text in Danish, probably printed by Horneman & Erslev for the first performance in Danish in 1871. Printed without plate numbers directly from the engraved plates. Two reprint editions of these parts were published.
